IOSH Working Safely

Introduction

The health and safety of individuals and those around them is a responsibility everyone must take on. In any sector, country and culture, working safely must play an essential part in all levels of workers' daily lives and routines, keeping safe from harm to work in a productive and effective environment.

This Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Working Safely course delivers delegates' knowledge essentials to understand why they must work safely to benefit themselves and those around them.

Course Outline

Interactive exercises, including quizzes, board games and puzzles, tutorials and practical activities, take delegates through the core knowledge of health and safety and legislation so they can apply it to their daily work.

The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with regulations. In addition, choose to learn with Citrus, and delegates will benefit from our custom-built training facilities and customer-first approach.

Our occupationally experienced and qualified trainers coach delegates on this course, completing the session with an assessment question and answer paper and in-work project. They must pass the assessment to receive an IOSH Managing Safely certificate, valid for three years.

Course Programme

This course teaches delegates to recognise and understand workplace health and safety essentials. In addition, delegates will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, and understand procedures and appropriate documentation in a course that meets all requirements specified by IOSH.

The course content includes:

  • Introducing working safely  
  • Defining hazard and risk, including classifications
  • Identifying common hazards and the threat they pose  
  • Improving safety performance in the workplace  
  • Protecting our environment and the people around us   
  • Hazard spotting exercise

Delegates will complete a question, answer and multiple choice paper followed by the hazard spotting exercise to qualify for the course. 

On Completion

Successful delegates will have the knowledge, skill, and confidence to recognise health and safety best practices and procedures. They will confidently:

  • Define and understand terms such as; hazard, risk, likelihood and severity  
  • Identify common hazards within their workplace and appropriate controls 
  • Assist in improving safety performance  

Demonstrate their understanding of:  

  • Accident causes and prevention  
  • Legislative responsibilities  
  • How they can help reduce the industry's impact on the environment


Delegates qualify for their IOSH Managing S  afely certificate on passing the post-course assessment - a Q&A and multiple choice paper, and completing a risk assessment project post-course, at work, and submitting it within two weeks of the course end date.

Things You Need to Know

Delegates attending the IOSH Working Safely training course should inform their trainer if they have any serious health issues, physical problems, special considerations or are taking any medication, which may create difficulties in any elements of the course. 

To qualify for this certificate, delegates must attend every module and complete the post-course assessment and workplace project.

Delegates must bring a passport photograph to training so we can issue ID cards.

For training held at your location, please ensure that the classroom you make available has a 240v power supply and is a suitable size for the number of delegates attending. In addition, please ensure that the practical area has been risk-assessed, is free from harm, and is ideal for training. 

Popular FAQ's

No, you do not need to subscribe to any level of IOSH membership to participate in this course.

There are no entry requirements for this course.

Anyone can join IOSH as an “Affiliate Member” of IOSH, including holders of the IOSH managing safely qualification, but higher grades of IOSH membership require higher levels of training, such as a NEBOSH Certificate.

CSCS no longer accept the IOSH Working Safely qualification for the Green (Labourer) Card.
