IPAF MEWPS for Managers

Introduction

Mobile Elevating Work Platforms or MEWPs are in use across a broad range of industries. Working at heights of up to 60m in some cases, operations using MEWPs need careful planning and attention to detail to ensure they are safe, first and foremost and ensure an efficient and productive procedure. Under UK health and safety legislation, specifically, the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and the Work at Height Regulations 2005, employers must train all employees who plan, supervise and manage work at height and the use of equipment for such work.

This IPAF MEWPs for Managers training course instructs supervisors and managers on how to prepare for and safely co-ordinate various types of MEWPs within their control.

Course Outline

With a mix of practical and theory-based exercises and tutorials, delegates will cover manufacturer information and general knowledge of MEWPs and management responsibilities and participate in practical activities to recognise best practices and operating methods. Delegates will gain an in-depth knowledge of planning, supervising and managing the use of MEWPs and learn:

  • Risk assessments and selecting the right equipment to mitigate all possible risks
  • Regulations and current legislation surrounding the use of powered access machines

The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with IPAF.

Our occupationally and technically-experienced trainers coach delegates on this course, and the course is complete following a written examination. Delegates must pass all assessments to receive the MEWP for managers qualification, and an IPAF Certificate of Training.

Course Programme

The training focuses on managing the operations of MEWPs.

Delegates will learn the essentials of what managers need to know about the safe use of MEWPs on-site - from planning the job and conducting a risk assessment, to selecting the right equipment and mitigating all possible risks.

The course content includes:

  • Management legal obligations working with MEWPs and operatives on-site
  • Selecting the correct MEWP machinery for the job
  • Knowing who is operating MEWPs on-site site, ensuring they have appropriate training and qualifications to do so
  • Potential hazards and preventive measures working with MEWPs
  • Preparation to safely and effectively manage MEWPs on site

Upon successfully completing the course content, the delegate will take a written examination to qualify for management certification.

We can also offer this course in a live virtual classroom. Please get in touch if you would like this option.

On Completion

At the end of the training, successful delegates completing the course will receive an IPAF Certificate.

Those who hold a valid IPAF operator Powered Access Licence (PAL) Card will also have category (MM) added.

Delegates will also have access to the IPAF ePAL app where their certificate is stored. Available on Android and iOS smartphones, the app also includes their logbook and safety information. Please note that hardcopy PAL cards and certificates must be arranged with the training department before the course start date, with an additional charge of £15.00, plus VAT.
