Our Electrical Training Division - Working with DNO and IDNO networks.

When we established our electrical division

Our Electrical division was formed in 2012, born out of an existing relationship with one of the UK’s leading contractors, Skanska UK.

How did we take ownership of the division?

Account Manager Vikki Medlin had managed Skanska's training for several years, with Citrus being one of their preferred Health & Safety providers. She was honoured when Skanska asked if Citrus would consider taking on their Electrical Operations in its entirety.

With the support of the Citrus Senior Management Team, the decision was made to embrace this new and exciting opportunity.

In 2012, both Jointing Schools and four Skanska staff members relocated from North London to Brentwood.

Naturally, as their Account Manager, Vikki was deeply involved in the transition and fully immersed herself in the world of Electrical Training.

How popular did the division become?

The contract was initially for one year, which led to a successful three-year delivery of training for all Skanska’s jointing engineers. During this period, we trained 415 delegates, generating £450k in revenue.

Throughout this time, Vikki dedicated herself to learning as much as possible about our new offering. She built strong relationships with contractors and, most importantly, with one of the largest electricity suppliers in the UK. She recognized the greater potential for Citrus to offer Electrical Training on a more commercial scale.

As the contract with Skanska neared its end, Vikki developed a client base that continued to grow and strengthen.

This effort culminated in securing full support from the Southern DNO for the delivery of our Jointing courses, enabling us to provide training to a vast number of leading contractors and subcontractors throughout London, the South East, and the East of England.

Where are we now with the division?

We are recognized by other DNOs across the UK, enabling us to provide training to both Designated Network Operators and private networks.

To date, the school has trained 2,153 delegates, generating £1.7 million in revenue.

Vikki Medlin is one of the original members of Citrus Training and has been with us for 20 years, initially working with key clients in the core training team. She is now solely responsible for overseeing all of our Electrical Operations.

It goes without saying that the department's success is due to the dedication of Vikki and her team.

The future plan for the Electrical Division is, of course, growth. We are looking to expand the training team, possibly enlarge the Jointing School, and add new courses to our portfolio.

What our electrical courses offer:

Electrical is the installation, fabrication and assembly of equipment requiring or made up of electrical input, such as premises wiring, manufactured wiring systems, raceways and more.

Our courses offer High and Low Voltage jointing training, enabling jointers and jointers' mates to gain the knowledge and skills they need to work on:

  • DNO networks that distribute electricity at scale from the transmission grid.
  • IDNO (private) networks that distribute to smaller localised areas from DNOs or the transmission itself.
  • DNOs or the transmission itself overall maintenance and connection line fault repairs on both networks.

We give operators to senior managers the tools and expertise to conduct their work safely, and our courses qualify workers with proof of training certificates upon completion.

What range of courses does the electrical division offer?

Citrus Training's electrical division offer a wide range of courses but some of our most common courses we run are:

National Coverage
