CPCS - Construction industry's largest scheme for plant operators.
Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) is the construction industry’s largest scheme for plant operators. CPCS Blue Cards and CPCS Red Cards are recognised by the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) and Major House Builders Group (MHBG), amongst others, as the favoured card to comply with codes of practice for competence and certification. The management committee is made up of a collection of representatives of the industry that use plant and related equipment in the scheme.
The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) card was introduced in 2003. The CPCS Card aims to set a universal standard for all plant operators and help employers abide regulations and requirements. CPCS covers an extensive range of plant and plant related categories. CPCS is always adding new plant and equipment asked for by the industry.
Why have a CPCS Card?
Holding a CPCS Card provides proof of skills and identification for plant operators and those who are involved with plant related operations. Even though membership of the scheme is voluntary, many construction sites and other working environments have made it a mandatory requirement, to ensure employees have the professional ability and health and safety awareness for plant operations to maintain high standards.
The CPCS Trained Operator Red Card certifies that the plant operator has successfully passed both their CPCS Theory and CPCS Practical tests. This confirms that the holder has a level of knowledge, skills and ability in their chosen field to meets national standards. The Red CPCS Card allows you to prove your plant operations ability and will contribute to securing your future in the plant industry; the Red Card is valid for two years from issue.
The CPCS Competent Operator Blue Card certifies that the plant operator has a strong level of knowledge and operating ability from previously taking the CPCS tests and is aware of health and safety through the CPCS Health and Safety Test. To promote to a CPCS Blue Card you will firstly need to complete a plant based NVQ in the appropriate category, you will then need to renew your Blue Card every 5 years.
