Nebosh - National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health
The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) was formed in 1979. NEBOSH is an independent examining board and awarding body.
NEBOSH qualifications are generally seen as the essential first step to launch a life long career in health and safety and are accepted by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and the International Institution of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).
The NEBOSH Certificate is the most popular qualification and is highly recognised throughout the industry. The NEBOSH Certificate level qualifications demonstrate that the successful candidate has a broad range of knowledge on the subject studied. There are no formal entry requirements so it is a great starting point for a career in Health and safety.
Why have a NEBOSH Certificate?
Candidates that look to work within the health and safety sector will clearly benefit from completing the appropriate NEBOSH certification, as it aims to expand the knowledge of health and safety legislation and its impact on your working environment. The NEBOSH Certificate is often seen as a requirement and will support future career progression within health and safety.
NEBOSH certification is recognised by other professional membership bodies including IOSH, and creates a clear route towards an IOSH membership. Therefore as long as a candidate has achieved the NEBOSH certificate after 2002 and can prove they have gained the necessary experience candidates can apply to use letters such as TechIOSH, GradIOSH, CMIOSH, and MIIRSM after their name.
