Kier Group

Case Study

The Brief

Kier Group is a leading UK construction and infrastructure services company providing specialist design and build capabilities. The company operates across business units, each responsible for its own training and development, coordinating training and all budgetary controls for doing so. Working across a UK-wide framework with ad-hoc training needs, Kier Group required safety, health, and technical training programmes across their business-critical regions. The challenge here was how to get enough regional training available to meet the need of the groups in each area and for projects such as HS2.

Our Approach

We have worked with Kier Group since Citrus Training launched in 2004, supporting all Kier business units across the UK to provide the critical safety, health and technical training they need. We are very proud to be one of Kier’s preferred suppliers.

From the beginning, we hired and assigned a training and delivery team solely for Kier. By engaging with Kier’s training coordinators in each regional area, we can support their training needs and ensure we offer services to suit each regional need.

Citrus supports the ad-hoc nature of Kier’s training with one of the largest public course schedules across the UK. This enables Kier to take advantage of a wide range of courses, delivered virtually and through regional technical training venues as and when required. We set high industry standards for safety, health and wellbeing, and our dedicated Kier customer team ensures we provide complete operational support, understanding the challenges and requirements of Kier across the UK.

The Result

Our training and delivery team understands the specific business drivers and roles aligned to Kier’s business, adding relatability and increasing effectiveness. We can reduce delivery costs by increasing our course availability, and with those courses nationally and readily available, we can meet their requirements quickly.

In addition, Citrus are able to combine ‘Group-Wide’ training offerings and deliver bespoke courses that incorporate Kier specific content and safety practices. Providing greater course efficacy for its employees and also providing commercial savings by delivering the course wholly to Kier staff.

By allowing them to switch to virtual learning for SSP and other courses, we have also reduced the cost of delivery and travel for delegates and downtime off tools.

Finally, regular reporting provided by a dedicated Citrus team provides ongoing details that can be used to measure against SLA performances and also supports Kier’s internal reporting on safety compliance, budgeting, and qualified employees across the Kier Group.

Testimonial

"I met with Citrus last week, and we discussed Kier London's training requirements for the forthcoming months. I told the team how pleased I am with the service I have received from Citrus and how you always respond to my queries quickly and efficiently.

The CAT and Genny certificates and cards received from a recent course were excellent - much better than another company we have used in the past.

Keep up the excellent work!"
