Confined Space Awareness

Introduction

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to confined spaces. With variable sizes, risk levels, locations and hazards to contend with, to go in unprepared is dangerous at best and can be disastrous.

Classifications help determine and manage the equipment, procedures and protocols workers must adhere to and implement in specific scenarios. So, knowledge and understanding of what they are and when to apply them to situations are critical when working in confined spaces.

This Citrus certification delivers the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding of confined space training principles. It is primarily aimed at those that have to identify the hazards and risks associated with confined space operations but are not required to enter a confined space, or act as a Top Person / Entry Controller.

Course Outline

With a mix of physical and classroom-based exercises and tutorials, delegates will cover legislative and administrative knowledge and awareness while taking part in practical tuition to fully understand how procedures work and why they are in place.

The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with regulations. In addition, choose to learn with Citrus, and we can tailor courses to fit your specific training needs, with greater flexibility provided by our custom-built training facilities and customer-first approach to how we do business.

Our occupationally and technically-experienced educators will coach delegates in this half-day course, finishing the session with a short answer question paper. They must pass the final assessment to qualify for the certificate.

Course Programme

This training is essential to introduce confined spaces to workers and update experienced professionals in legislative changes, updated principles and more. Delegates will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, understand procedures, and appropriate documentation and classifications.

The learnings will take delegates through:

  • Understanding confined spaces and the specified risks
  • Knowledge of safe systems of work  and risk assessment
  • Safe atmospheric monitoring
  • Pre and post-arrangements for safe confined space working, including decontamination, reporting, and more
On Completion

At the end of the training, successful delegates will have an understanding of:

  • Confined space legislation and how classifications are given (NC, low/medium/high-risk)
  • Safe systems of work and risk assessments
  • Types of access equipment and when to use them
  • Method statements and other supporting materials
  • Entry permits - what they are and who needs them
  • Methods of communication for safe working in confined spaces and rescue
