Emergency First Aid at Work

This Emergency First Aid at Work course is designed for any person who may need a basic knowledge of first aid, companies with a small number of staff and lower risk workplaces, such as shops and offices. This content is in line with HSE recommendations. Adult focus.

The aim of the course is to provide the delegate the relevant knowledge to act as an Emergency First Aider in the Workplace.

Welcome and introduction

• Dealing with an emergency (assessing a casualty, monitoring a casualty, where to get help, electrical incidents)
• Unresponsive and breathing adult
• Seizures
• Unresponsive and not breathing adult (unresponsive not breathing adult, face shields and pocket masks, mouth to nose)
• AED (use of an AED, chain of survival)
• Choking adult
• Hygiene techniques
• Bleeding and wounds (bleeding heavily from a wound (limb, embedded object in a wound) small blisters and splinters, small bruises and wounds, nosebleed)
• Shock (shock and internal bleeding
• Accident recording, reporting and COSHH (health and safety first aid regulations, first aid kits, accident records, RIDDOR and COSHH)
• Burns (burns, electrical burns, chemical burns, chemical burns to the eyes)

By the end of the training course delegates will be able to:

• Record and report accidents and injuries in the workplace (RIDDOR).
• Have knowledge of what to do in an emergency situation 
• Administer basic life support and put a casualty in the recovery position correctly 
• Treat a number of first aid/emergency situations in the work place

Continuous assessment by observation, practical and group exercises and questioning.

Delegates will receive a British Red Cross certificate and wallet sized qualification card that are valid for 3 years.

Delegates should inform their trainer if they have any serious health issues, physical problems, special considerations or are taking any medication, which may create difficulties in undertaking elements of this training course. The Minimum age to attend the course is 16 years of age.

For training being held at your site your venue will need to comply with the British Red 2 Cross standards. This venue criteria will be forwarded to you prior to the course taking place.
