EUSR - Install, Inspect & Remove Timber Support Systems (Category 3)

Introduction

Sometimes known as shoring, an excavation support system (ESS) primary aim is to support the ground within an excavation, while at the same time resisting groundwater pressure, building loads, roadways, railroads, construction traffic and various other types of loads.

There are three main variations of the system, steel hydraulics, mechanical or timber, whose job it is to support the sides of an excavation to prevent cave-in and collapse, protecting anyone working on or around the excavation site. This course specifically looks at timber support systems.

The Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) is the online register of training and skills for the energy and utility sector. In partnership with CSCS, the EUSR sets out to nurture and maintain a skilled and sustainable workforce in our industry.

This EUSR Timber Support Systems Category 3 certification delivers the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding of timber ground retention systems and how to safely use them. It is specifically aimed at Managers, Supervisors, operators and safety advisors working in excavations.

Course Outline

With a mix of practical and theory-based exercises and tutorials, delegates will cover manufacturer and general knowledge and awareness of ground retention and timber support systems and participate in practical activities to learn best practices, and operating methods to install a system in a live environment.

The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with regulations.

Our occupationally and technically-experienced trainers coach delegates on this course, completing the session with a practical observation and short answer question paper. They must pass the assessment to qualify for the EUSR accredited certificate and ID card which is valid for three years.
