First Aid at Work

  • Who Attends

    The First Aid at Work course is for staff acting as the recognised first aider at work, companies with a large number of staff, higher risk workplaces such as construction, manufacturing and transport and those wanting a comprehensive course covering all major techniques and skills.

  • The Aim

    To provide delegates with the necessary knowledge of the responsibilities of being a First Aider. Delegates will have a basic knowledge of how to correctly react and treat the various first aid situations that may occur in their place of work.

  • Course Content

    This training course includes recognition and treatment of:

    • Blood loss and shock.
    • Caring for an unconscious casualty.
    • Performing Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
    • Burns and scalds.
    • Disorders of the airway.
    • Poisoning.
    • Bone injuries.
    • Major medical conditions, including administration of aspirin and epinephrine.

  • Knowledge

    By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

    • Record and report accidents and injuries in the workplace (RIDDOR).
    • Administer basic life support and put a casualty in the recovery position correctly.
    • Treat any first aid/emergency situation in the workplace.

  • Methods

    A high proportion of case studies and discussion will be supplemented with practical work and classroom based tutorials.

    To obtain certification delegates must pass a post-course assessment paper.

  • Additional Info

    Delegates should provide a passport photograph on the day of training for production of ID Cards.
    Delegates should inform their trainer if they have any serious health issues, physical problems, special considerations or are taking any medication, which may create difficulties in undertaking elements of this training course.

    For training held at your own location, please ensure that the classroom you make available has a 240v power supply and is a suitable size for the number of delegates attending. Please ensure that the practical area has been risk assessed, is free from harm and is suitable for training.
