Introduction

Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) are companies that Ofgem licenses to own and operate electricity networks. An IDNO network connects to the local power network to supply and transmit electricity in a smaller local area, distributing from a larger-scale Distribution Networker Operator (DNO). Low voltage Jointing works supplied by an IDNO or private network such as this can include client electrical works for anything from residential plots to outdoor decorative lighting.

Course Outline

Through a mix of practical and theory-based exercises and tutorials, this Citrus Low Voltage Jointing (IDNO) qualification gives delegates the understanding, skill, knowledge, and competence to carry out Jointing work on low-voltage networks and private networks with new plastic cables.

The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with regulations. In addition, choose to learn with Citrus, and delegates will benefit from our custom-built training facilities and customer-first approach.

Our occupationally and technically-experienced trainers coach delegates on this course in the Jointing School, completing the session with a practical observation and short answer question paper. They must pass the assessment to qualify for their Citrus certificate of attendance, valid for three years.

Once delegates have the certificate of attendance, this then allows them to work under personal supervision unitl they complete their trade test or authorisation assessment.

Delegates taking this Low Voltage Jointing Plastic Only qualification will cover knowledge, skills and operating practice.

Course content includes:

• Jointing practices and procedures for low-voltage works
• Health and Safety practices and regulations for electrical
• Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
• Selecting appropriate PPE
• Using lamps in low voltage work
• Insulation and continuity testing
• Earth Loop Impedance
• Polarity testing
• Three phase testing phase rotators
• Carrying out appropriate risk assessments
• Assessment

On Completion

Upon successfully completing this qualification, delegates will be able to complete low-voltage joints and terminations under personal supervision.  After building up a portfolio of evidence and passing a final trade test or authorization assessment, delegates will have the supervision removed.

Who Should Attend?

This Citrus Low Voltage Jointing IDNO Plastic Only qualification is for apprentices, mates and operators with electrical experience in underground network fitting or overhead line who need to qualify in low voltage to do their job.

Delegates take this comprehensive training over five days, completing with a final assessment.

Things You Need to Know

To take this course, delegates must have general First Aid and Manual Handling certification. 

Delegates must be 18 or over and bring appropriate PPE to the training, including:

• Flame retardant overalls  
• Safety footwear  
• General purpose gloves and live working gloves (LV)    
• Protective eyewear safety glasses  
• Full face visor  
• Hard hat  
• Hi-vis clothing 

Before starting the course, they must inform their trainer of any special considerations, medication or physical restrictions that may cause difficulties in any part of the training.
