Signing, Lighting & Guarding Basic Training
- Who Attends
This Signing, Lighting & Guarding course is designed to give an introduction to Operatives who are new to the Signing, Lighting & Guarding (SLG) element of NRSWA and who do not have enough experience to pass the City & Guild's SLG assessment.
- The Aim
The Signing, Lighting & Guarding course aims to provide delegates with the skills and knowledge to perform operative duties to standards of the SRSWA, in order to safeguard themselves and others.
- Course Content
The Signing, Lighting & Guarding course content includes:
• Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 relation to NRSW.
• The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
• The Highways Act 1980 Safety at Street Works.
• Road Works Code of Practice:
• Safety Requirements for:
a) Signage and Lighting.
b) Working on different classes of roads.
c) Methods of traffic control.
d) Speed control of passing traffic.
Standard Operative Qualifications
• Signing, Lighting & Guarding (Unit 2).
The Signing, Lighting & Guarding course is designed to give delegates the practical knowledge to be able to work with an experienced operative. When experience is gained working on live sites, the delegate will be ready to progress onto the City & Guilds, NRSWA, SLG operative's assessment to gain SWQR Card.
Classroom, video and practical based tutorials, supplemented with group exercises, oral and practical assessments. Sessions will be varied within the framework to allow the most effective development of the candidate.

Delegates should inform their trainer if they have any serious health issues, physical problems, special considerations or are taking any medication, which may create difficulties in undertaking elements of this training course.
For Signing, Lighting and Guarding training held at your own location, please ensure that the classroom you make available has a 240v power supply and is a suitable size for the number of delegates attending. Please ensure that the practical area has been risk assessed, is free from harm and is suitable for training.
