CSCS Green Cards

CSCS Green Cards - the must-have card for certified labouring

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Green Card is specifically for workers carrying out labouring duties. So, if you or your team are working in any kind of construction environment involving physical build and, or demolition, infrastructure, and any other industries that require physical labour, you are likely to need a Green Card.

While not a legal requirement, most construction sites will only allow entry with the relevant CSCS card; unless workers enter in a non-construction-based capacity - such as sales, assessment, and for verification activities. The CSCS card lets clients and contractors know that the holder is knowledgeable and certified in specific industry qualifications, leaving them confident in the cardholder’s capability to carry out entry-level duties safely.

The Green Card is the start of a progression journey in construction, with so many options and opportunities to move onwards and upwards. Delegates can continue their education with our plant training courses, such as CPCS or NPORS, and follow on with an NVQ qualification to prove competence as a supervisor or manager with gold and black cards, respectively.

Courses we offer

Applying for a CSCS card requires the applicant to hold qualifications or certifications from various routes, as there is no one CSCS card-specific course to take. To apply for a Green Card, allowing entry and sign-off to work on a construction site as a Labourer, Citrus Training offers the following:

HSA - Health and Safety Awareness (CITB) - providing an introduction to the industry through a practical summary of health and safety, welfare and environmental issues, individual and co-worker responsibilities, employer duties, and employee health and safety - with in-person and virtual options available

And then, HS&E - Health, Safety & Environment touch screen test to demonstrate a basic level of health, safety and environmental awareness and prove they can work safely on a job. For the Green Labourer Card, applicants must pass the Operative HS&E test.

The HSA test will prepare the participant for the HS&E Touch Screen test. Then with both in hand, participants can apply for the CSCS Green Card. To make an application, head to the CSCS website with your qualifications ready to submit.

Things you need to know…

How to apply for a CSCS Green Card
Once delegates have their qualifications ready, they will need to apply directly for the relevant CSCS card or through their employer; we cannot do this on their behalf. The best way to apply is through the CSCS online service, which is available 24/7 and has options for individuals, employers, and single and bulk applications. There you will also find alternative ways to contact them should online be an issue, but we always recommend going to the online service first.

How much does a CSCS Green Card cost?
Course prices are available here for the relevant qualifications to apply for the CSCS Green Card. The card application itself costs £36.00 and can be purchased online or over the phone.

When will the CSCS card arrive?
Once an application is submitted and approved, CSCS will issue the card and post it the next working day. There is a grace period of up to ten days, so if your card is delayed for any reason after ten days, you must contact CSCS so they can look into it or reissue.

Renewing and replacing CSCS cards
Firstly, to renew or replace a card, holders must have an up-to-date pass qualification for the HS&E test, completed within the last two years before application. With this in place, holders can renew cards from six months before or up to six months after the expiry date on the card. A renewed CSCS card will have the original CSCS card's expiry date plus the renewal's lifespan (full T&Cs can be found here).
