Fire Warden / Marshall Training with Safe Use of Fire Extinguishers

Introduction

The role of the fire warden or marshall in the workplace is critical to keep people and property safe from the danger and consequences of fire. The nominated person must have essential Fire Warden/Marshal Training to understand their role and duties within the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and with it, know how to correctly use fire extinguishers. 

Training is essential for fire extinguisher use, as they play a critical role in first aid response to fire and when discharged correctly, help prevent or minimise catastrophic damage to property and fatalities.

This Citrus certification delivers the necessary skills, knowledge, and thorough understanding of fire safety, associated legislation, roles, and responsibilities of their duties as Fire Warden or Marshal and how to use fire extinguishers safely.

Course Outline

Practical and theory-based exercises and tutorials take delegates through fire safety, how to use fire extinguishers, their role as a warden or marshall, and why they are essential. 

The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with regulations. In addition, choose to learn with Citrus, and delegates will benefit from our custom-built training facilities and customer-first approach.

Our occupationally and technically-experienced trainers coach delegates on this course, completing the session with a question and answer paper. They must pass the assessment to qualify for the Citrus Certificate    and Citrus ID Card, valid for three years.

Course Programme

This training is essential for anyone wanting to work as a fire safety professional in their industry and qualify to use fire extinguishers. Delegates will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, and understand procedures, appropriate documentation and classifications.

The course content includes:

  • Responsibilities of the Fire Warden/Marshal
  • Building Construction, Relevant Law, built-in fire protection within buildings
  • Actions on hearing a Fire Alarm
  • Evacuation procedures, including fire muster points and roll calls
  • Fire Safety Checks, including reasons for combustion
  • Types of fire (classification of fire)
  • Fire spread and how to prevent it
  • Arson prevention
  • Safety signs and where to use them
  • Fire Extinguishers (correct type, ENS3 Regulations)
  • Limitations and capabilities of extinguishing media
  • Practical use of fire extinguishers
On Completion

At the end of the training, successful delegates will have an understanding of fire safety, fire prevention, correct use of fire extinguishers and the role of the Fire Warden or Marshal.

On successful completion of the course, delegates receive their Citrus Fire Warden Certificate and Citrus Training ID card, valid for three years.

This Citrus Certified course has practical elements, so delegates must inform their trainer if they have any serious health issues, physical problems, special considerations or are taking any medication which may create difficulties. 

The content of this course includes awareness of periodic examinations of equipment. The course does not provide full training in maintaining equipment. Additional training for equipment maintenance is available, contact us to find out more.

For training held at your location, please ensure that the classroom you make available has a power supply and is a suitable size for the number of delegates attending. In addition, please ensure that the practical area has been risk-assessed, is free from harm, and is ideal for training, including letting off a fire extinguisher if needed.

Half day

The certificate is valid for three years from the date of issue.

No, as this is only a half-day course, you will simply attend the course again to renew your certificate.

With locations nationwide for Fire Warden and Marshall training, you can attend one of our custom-built centres or we can send a trainer to you, should you prefer to train a group of people at the same time in one place.
