IOSH Leading Safely

Introduction

So much more than a reaction to an incident, health and safety at work measures are a strategic, productive, and critical investment into any business. Naturally, at its simplest, the primary goal is to protect workers from harm and make care and recovery accessible to anyone who needs it. But, investing in high-quality training and enhancing the health and safety practices and provisions within a business improves overall productivity, which leads to increases in profit, brand and corporate reputation. Staff attraction and retention also benefit from the latter, further cementing that a happy and safe workplace is productive.

This Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Leading Safely course delivers everything delegates need to understand and implement the best health and safety practices for their organisation and directly impact the business.

Course Outline

Theory-based exercises and tutorials take delegates through what health and safety measures at work mean for people working in leadership roles and how to improve the culture of safety at work.

The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with regulations. In addition, choose to learn with Citrus, and delegates will benefit from our custom-built training facilities and customer-first approach.

Our occupationally experienced and qualified trainers coach delegates on this course, completing the session with an assessment question and answer paper. They must pass the assessment to receive a British Red Cross First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three years.

Course Programme

This course teaches delegates to recognise and understand the leadership role within health and safety and where their responsibilities lie. In addition, delegates will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, and understand procedures and appropriate documentation in a course that meets all requirements specified by IOSH.

The course content includes:

  • What effective safety and health leadership look like
  • Benefits of effective safety and health leadership
  • Recognising the value of strategic safety and health and its integration into management systems
  • Understanding leadership safety and health responsibilities
  • Appreciating the consequences of poor safety and health
  • Planning the overall direction for safety and health in an organisation
  • Understanding the importance of adequately resourcing safety and health management systems
  • Why and how to monitor and review safety and health performance

Delegates will also have the opportunity to benchmark their current and future safety and health vision and priorities following global safety models, recognising good practices from leading organisations worldwide.

On Completion

At the end of the training, successful delegates will have the knowledge, skill and confidence to lead with health and safety practices front of mind and commit to a personal action plan to improve their own and their organisations’ safety and health management.

They receive a mobile app to access their diagnostic tool and action planner, the same diagnostic tool used in training to identify their current safety and health position against critical questions, answered with recommended actions.

Finally, they will gain access to a safety leadership community, with news from IOSH, and up-to-date discussions on themes in safety leadership, from trainers and delegates.
