National Water Hygiene

Introduction

All UK water companies require individuals entering clean water sites or working on the clean water network – known as ‘Restricted Operations’, to hold a National Water Hygiene EUSR registration.

Sites classified as ‘Restricted Operations’ can include works on service reservoirs, pumping stations, water treatment works, springs, wells and boreholes, and the national water mains and service pipes network.

The Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) - the online register of training and skills for the energy and utility sector - accredits this course, which, in partnership with CSCS, sets out to nurture and maintain a skilled and sustainable workforce in our industry.

This EUSR National Water Hygiene certification delivers the necessary hygiene knowledge and understanding for anyone working with potable water.

Course Outline

In theory-based exercises and tutorials, delegates will cover four core modules of water works in utility services and learn best hygiene practices, including:

  • Module 1: The importance of water in our industry
  • Module 2: How water acts as a carrier of disease
  • Module 3: Potential contamination and the consequences
  • Module 4: How to prevent contamination

Our Energy & Utility Skills approved trainers coach delegates on this course, completing the session with a short answer question paper. In addition, delegates must complete all four modules and pass the Water Hygiene assessment to receive the SHEA Water registration, valid for three years.

Course Programme

This training is essential for all levels of employees working with potable water. Delegates will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, and understand procedures, appropriate documentation and classifications.

  • The importance of personal hygiene and identifying potential sources of contamination
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements in water treatment
