Operations Training

The Citrus’ Apprenticeship programme combines a traditional Level 5 Management Apprenticeship and a Level 6 Construction Management NVQ. We blend both courses into our unique and exclusive delivery model designed by our team of training and subject managers. Including the NVQ means that candidates can apply for a Black CSCS card at the end of the programme.   

Throughout this 18-month Apprenticeship, we deliver a four-hour online virtual classroom session every four weeks, decreasing downtime compared to a traditional 'day release' model.  

On the first day, candidates will learn the supervisor and team leader theories required for their job role, and on the second day, we will deliver the NVQ modules by looking at their practical applications in the workplace.   

During the programme, we will prepare them to take their End Point Assessment (EPA), with dedicated tutor support and access to mock exam materials after the apprentice reaches the Gateway for their EPA.

On completion

Apprentices will achieve their Level 5 Operations / Departmental Manager Apprenticeship and Level 6 NVQ in Construction Site Management, enabling candidates to apply for their Black CSCS card. On successful completion, they can apply for membership in the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), and we run a series of workshops to facilitate this.

Who is this apprenticeship designed for?

Citrus Training supports employers by screening each candidate individually, but the ideal candidate will meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Apprenticeship and funding:

  • Assistant/Trainee Site Managers
  • Site Supervisor and Foreperson aspiring to become a manager
  • Holders of previous qualifications (e.g. Degree in Civil Engineering) but not a formal management qualification
  • Existing managers with no formal management qualifications

Things you need to know…

We want to make the process as smooth as possible, but there are a few things to consider and action to train an Apprentice through Citrus Training:

  • Delegates can start the apprenticeship after the last Friday in June of the academic year of their 16th birthday.
  • Employers must employ the Apprentice full time for a minimum of 30 hours per week. Self-employed Apprentices are not eligible for funding.
  • The Apprentice cannot already hold a supervisory, team leading or management qualification.
  • They must complete the apprenticeship within the time allotted. If you know an individual cannot do so, they must not receive funding. The timeframe is dependent on the apprenticeship level.
  • The Apprentice must not be taking another Apprenticeship or receive any other DfE funded FE/HE programme during their Apprenticeship with Citrus Training. Individuals on a sandwich placement as part of a degree programme must not undertake any part of an apprenticeship during this placement.
  • The Apprentice must not be asked to contribute financially to the cost of training on the programme or end-point assessment, including where the individual has completed the programme successfully and has left early. Fees include any co-investment or additional training and assessment costs above the funding band that the employer has paid directly to the main provider as part of the agreed Apprenticeship.
  • The Apprentice must spend at least 50% of their working hours in England throughout the Apprenticeship.
  • The Apprentice must have the right to work in England or have eligible residency status.
