Cable Avoidance - RD8000 Training

Introduction

When working in excavation, much of the work lies in preparation. Utility services such as pipes, gas works and cables can cause severe damage to property and people if damaged. Locating these services, and in this case, cables is essential to avoid cable strikes that at worst can cause serious harm to people and property, and will always require production downtime to administer repair and risk assess the site again.

This Citrus Cable Avoidance Tool (Cat & Genny) RD8000 Training certification delivers the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to safely carry out cable avoidance work using the advanced RD8000 cable locator.

Course Outline

With a mix of practical and theory-based exercises, videos and tutorials, delegates will cover manufacturer, general knowledge and awareness of utility services and participate in practical activities to learn best practices and operating methods to detect cables for excavation preparation.

Often referred to as Cat & Genny training , our training follows National Occupational Standards. In addition, choose to learn with Citrus, and delegates benefit from our custom-built training facilities and customer-first approach.

Our occupationally and technically-experienced trainers coach delegates on this course, completing the session with a practical observation and short answer question paper. They must pass the assessment to qualify for the Citrus accredited certificate and ID card, valid for three years.

Course Programme

This training is essential for workers to detect cables safely and correctly using more advanced equipment. Delegates will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, and understand procedures, appropriate documentation and classifications.

The course content includes:

  • Basic principles in locating and avoiding underground services
  • Identifying hazards and the risks they pose
  • Reading and interpreting site plans
  • Practical use of RD8000 Cat & Genny equipment
On Completion

At the end of the training, successful delegates will confidently:

  • Identify potential risks to themselves and others
  • Read and understand site plans for effective preparatory work
  • Operate RD8000 cable avoidance tools to avoid or locate underground apparatus

On successfully completing the course, delegates receive their Citrus accredited certificate and ID card, valid for three years.

Who Should Attend?

This Safe Use of Cable Avoidance RD8000 Location Equipment training programme is designed for Operatives and Supervisors who have to locate underground apparatus for work on the roadways, highways and other sites using more advanced equipment.

This one-day comprehensive course trains delegates to safely and responsibly detect underground apparatus using RD8000 locating tools.

For training held at your location, please ensure that the classroom you make available has a 240v power supply and is a suitable size for the number of delegates attending. In addition, please ensure that the practical area has been risk-assessed, is free from harm, and is ideal for training.
