High Voltage Jointing 33KV - Plastic Only (IDNO) Private Networks


Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) are companies that Ofgem license to own and operate electricity networks. An IDNO network connects to the local power network to supply and transmit electricity in a smaller local area than a larger-scale Distribution Networker Operator (DNO). High-voltage Jointing works within an IDNO or private network such as this can include client electrical works for anything from banks to cruise ships.

Course Outline

Through a mix of practical and theory-based exercises and tutorials, this Citrus High-Voltage Jointing 33KV (IDNO) qualification gives delegates the understanding, skill, knowledge, and competence to carry out Jointing work on the 33 KV Networks including new cable Jointing,     

The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with regulations. In addition, choose to learn with Citrus, and delegates will benefit from our custom-built training facilities and customer-first approach.

Our occupationally and technically-experienced trainers coach delegates on this course in the Jointing School, completing the session with a practical observation and short answer question paper. They must pass the assessment to qualify for the Citrus Certificate of Attendance, valid for three years.

Once delegates have the certificate of attendance, this then allows them to work under personal supervision unitl they complete their trade test or authorisation assessment.

Course Programme

Delegates taking this High-Voltage Jointing 33KV (IDNO) Plastic Only qualification will cover knowledge, skills and operating practice.

Course content includes:

  • Jointing practices and procedures       
  • Health and safety regulations and legislation relating to electrical work  
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)  
  • Appropriate PPE for high-voltage Jointing  
  • Task instructions including completing indoor & outdoor terminations and straight joints
  • Risk assessments for electrical works
  • Jointing new cables
  • Different permit types and allowances  
  • Using a Spiking Gun and other high-voltage specific tools
On Completion

Upon successfully completing this qualification, delegates will be able to complete high-voltage joints and terminations under personal supervision.  After building up a portfolio of evidence and passing a final trade test or authorization assessment, delegates will have the supervision removed.

Who Should Attend?

This Citrus High-Voltage Jointing 33KV IDNO Plastic Only qualification is for apprentices, mates and low-voltage jointers who have some electrical experience and an understanding of the network, working towards high-voltage projects.

Delegates take this comprehensive training over two days for 33KV.

Things You Need to Know

To take this course, delegates must have:

  • First Aid  
  • Manual Handling  
  • New Roads and Street Works Units 1-3 card  
  • A knowledge of working in the electrical industry, i.e. LV Jointers, Domestic Electrician, Jointers Linemans or Fitters Mate 

It is advisable that delegates first take the High Voltage 11KV course, however, this is not a requirement.

Delegates must be 18 or over and bring appropriate PPE to the training, including:

  • Flame retardant overalls  
  • Safety footwear  
  • General purpose gloves  
  • Protective eyewear safety glasses  
  • Full face visor  
  • Hard hat  
  • Hi-vis clothing

Before starting the course, they must inform their trainer of any special considerations, medication or physical restrictions that may cause difficulties in any part of the training.
