IPAF MEWPS for Managers - Virtual

Introduction

Mobile Elevating Work Platforms or MEWPs are in use across a broad range of industries. Working at heights of up to 60m in some cases, operations using MEWPs need careful planning and attention to detail to ensure they are safe, first and foremost and ensure an efficient and productive procedure.

This IPAF MEWPs for Managers online training course covers what managers need to know for safe and effective use of MEWPs on-site. The content covers planning the job, risk assessment, and equipment selection for optimum cost-efficiency and risk mitigation.

Online only, this course is designed solely for eLearning, on compatible PCs and tablet devices, allowing delegates to complete the sections at their own pace with the function to save and resume their training at any time. 

Course Outline

This online training is developed in conjunction with major contractors, delegates will cover manufacturer information and general knowledge of MEWPs such as platform selection, work at height regulations, emergency procedures, equipment maintenance and pre-use checks. Where machines are available, there will also be practical demonstrations to watch and learn online to recognise best practices and operating methods.

The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with IPAF.

Our occupationally and technically-experienced trainers coach delegates on this course, and the course is complete following a written examination. Delegates must pass all assessments to receive the MEWP for managers qualification, and an IPAF Certificate of Training.

Course Programme

The training focuses on managing the operations of MEWPs.

Delegates will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance and inspections, and understand procedures, appropriate documentation and classifications.

The course content includes:

  • MEWP legislation and guidance
  • Hire terms and conditions
  • Machine types and use
  • Structural parts and MEWP selection
  • Operator training and familiarisation
  • Operator daily inspection
  • MEWP personal fall protection
  • Safe operating methods and hazard awareness
  • Safety beyond training

Upon successfully completing the course content, the delegate will take a written examination to qualify for management certification.

On Completion

At the end of the training, successful delegates will:

  • Have excellent knowledge of all relevant legislation and regulation for Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) and managing the relevant operations
  • Know the Working at Height Regulations relevant to Managers
  • Be confident in operating and inspecting MEWPs
  • Carry out all operations to learned best and safety practices
  • Understand all theoretical and practical elements of managing operations of MEWPs

On successfully completing the course, delegates receive the MEWP for managers qualification and an IPAF Certificate of Training, available in hardcopy and via the IPAF ePAL app. Available on Android and iOS smartphones, the app also includes their logbook and safety information. Please note that hardcopy PAL cards and certificates must be arranged with the training department before the course start date, with an additional charge of £15.00, plus VAT.

The IPAF programme is for employers, project managers, foremen and supervisors working in industries such as construction, facilities management, retail, airports and arboriculture. Anyone who is responsible for planning and overseeing the use of MEWPs on their job site can take this qualification.

Course Duration

This comprehensive six to eight-hour training prepares delegates to safely and responsibly manage MEWP operations.

Things You Need to Know

The course is delivered through compatible PCs, laptops and tablet devices, using sophisticated facial recognition in the online training and evaluation session. This technology validates delegate identity and prevents any fraudulent attempt to obtain the qualification.

Successful delegates will receive the IPAF Site assessment qualification and an IPAF Certificate of Training on completion. Both assets will be accessible via the IPAF ePAL app, available on Android and iOS smartphones, including their logbook and safety information. Physical PAL cards and certificates are available through prior arrangements with the training department before the course starts for an additional charge of £15 plus VAT.

While this is a theory-only online course, delegates must inform their trainer of any difficulties or challenges to consider in taking part.
