Level 2 NVQ in Plant Operations (Construction)

Introduction

Plant and machinery on-site are highly versatile despite their size. With singular machines made multi-purpose thanks to attachments, few are single-use machines - which can be more sustainable and cost-effective. However, attachments can be large and tricky to fit to the untrained, and with heavy loads and safety at risk from poor fitting, there is a very valid case for proper attachment fitting training on construction machines.

This Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Plant Operations (Construction) qualification enables delegates to demonstrate and recognise skills, knowledge, understanding and competence in a real workplace environment so they can work as a Plant Operator within the construction industry. Taking this Level 2 in Plant Operations also allows delegates to upgrade to the blue CPCS or NPORS-CSCS Competent Operator Card.

The qualification enables delegates to show they are a competent Plant Operator. As such, we can tailor the course to specialise in a particular item of plant:

  • 180 Excavator
  • 360 Excavator (excavating or extracting)
  • Agricultural tractor
  • Crawler tractor/dozer
  • Crusher
  • Dump truck (rigid or articulated)
  • Forklift side-loader
  • Forward tipping dumper
  • Industrial forklift truck
  • Loader compressor
  • Lorry loader
  • MEWPs (boom or scissor)
  • Pedestrian operated tower crane
  • Reach truck
  • Ride-on roller

Course Outline

We assess this NVQ over two on-site assessments while the delegate is carrying out their day-to-day duties. Rather than producing a portfolio over time, our specifically assigned assessors gather evidence in the form of photographs, videos, method statements and professional discussions to take forward for examination.

To pass this qualification, delegates must successfully complete and achieve all three Mandatory Units and Optional Units. The amount of optional units taken will depend on the type of plant machinery.
