Public safety is paramount in any construction work, and in telecoms where equipment and materials are readily in touching distance of the public, the correct installation of protective measures is vital. Carriageway frames and covers are used on roads and highways with light singular traffic to heavy and fast-moving, so safe and precise installation is a must. From a productivity stance, protecting the materials and equipment underneath is critical to maintaining the digital infrastructure the country relies on as well as the logistics.
Operators working on the Openreach network must hold the relevant qualifications and certifications to do so in the UK. The Q Modules are a range of training courses approved by Openreach to ensure their workers are operating to the correct standards and safety methods.
Through a mix of practical and classroom-based exercises and tutorials, delegates will cover legislative and administrative knowledge and awareness while taking part in practical tuition, focusing on carriageway frame and cover removal and installation.
The course reflects national standards and industry best practices and is fully accredited in line with regulations. In addition, choose to learn with Citrus, and delegates benefit from training in our custom-built facilities and customer-first approach.
Our occupationally and technically-experienced trainers will coach delegates in this one-day course, awarding successful delegates a Citrus Training and Openreach certificate following an end-point assessment (EPA).
This training is essential for operators working on the Openreach underground network and other third-party-owned UG telecom networks completing excavations to remove and install carriageway Frames and Covers. Delegates will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, and understand procedures and appropriate documentation and classifications.
The course content includes:

- Site surveys
- Policies and legal requirements
- Safe dig practice
- Selection of correct materials and equipment
- Saint Gobain levelling kits and retrofit kits
- All mandatory safety and operational checks

Operators must demonstrate the ability to remove, maintain and install carriageway frames and covers to the standards and specifications set out in the training to pass.
At the end of the training, successful delegates will be able to complete carriageway frame installations, levelling repairs or replacement on Openreach UG networks.
For operators not employed by Openreach, this module is also accepted on all other networks.
The Q024 Carriageway Frame and Cover Installation Certification is valid for three years from the date of completion.
